Port Isaac, England

Port Isaac, England

A very quaint fishing village in a nice little bay. Some good, gay-friendly places to stay, some nice pubs - frequented by the cast and crew of Doc  Martin (when filming is on), and plenty of places
to eat. If you fancy appearing on TV, the Doc Martin people recruit extras in the village hall. If you're chosen they pay you well and feed you royally! The Coast path here offers some fabulous walking. http://www.gayfriendlyguide.com/cornwall-north-cornwall-villages.html

Port Isaac, was a busy coastal port from the Middle Ages to the mid 19th. century when it was an active harbour where cargoes like stone, coal, timber and pottery were loaded and unloaded.

Fishing and fish-processing were also important and today there are still fishermen working from here although tourism plays an increasingly important role.
Most of the old centre of the village consists of 18th. and 19th. century cottages, many officially listed as of architectural or historic importance, along narrow alleys and 'opes' winding down steep hillsides. http://www.trelaske.co.uk/hotel-near-port-isaac.html

Ta-Prohm-Temple, Cambodia
« Reply #392 on: September 05, 2012, 07:21:38 PM »

Ta Prohm Temple, Cambodia

Ta Prohm temple is also known as the Tomb Raider temple in the Angkor complex, Cambodia.

Ta Prohm is the modern name of a temple at Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and originally called Rajavihara. Located approximately one kilometre east of Angkor Thom and on the southern edge of the East Baray, it was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm has been left in much the same condition in which it was found: the photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor’s most popular temples with visitors.  http://www.filination.com/blog/2011/01/22/ta-prohm-tomb-raider-temple-angkor/

Monsanto, Portugal

An authentic Portuguese village built between giant rocks. In southeast of the Serra da Estrela is the charming Monsanto, an ancient fortified village on the slope of a mountain. Houses between giant rocks is an impressive sight.

Arches National Park,USA

Arches National Park – the name speaks for itself. It's hard not to find drama in the red sandstone formations that give Utah's Arches National Park its name—and its beauty. There are more natural arches here than anywhere else in the world.

Arches National Park contains the world's largest concentration of natural stone arches. This National Park is a red, arid desert, punctuated with oddly eroded sandstone forms such as fins, pinnacles, spires, balanced rocks, and arches. The 73,000-acre region has over 2,000 of these "miracles of nature."

Blue Hole, Bahamas

Blue Hole, Bahamas

The blue holes in Bahamas look like a fantasy underworld where the colors are beautifully mixed up. The deepest one called Dean’s Blue Hole is 202 meters deep (663 ft.). Too bad only professionals can explore it and enjoy the beauty of the blue underwater caves. Other beauties of the underwater that everyone can visit are the fabulous Red Sea Star restaurant in Israel, located 6 meters under the sea.

In the Ice Age, the hole was a dry cave system entrance. After melting glaciers and rising sea levels, the caves were flooded and became a Holy Land of  many brave divers. Today, the Blue Hole is famous for its sponges, barracuda, corals, angelfish, and a group of sharks patrolling  often at the edge of the hole.

Nelson Lakes National Park, New Zealand

Nelson Lakes National Park is located in the north of the South Island of New Zealand. The park covers 1,020 km² of the northern most Southern Alps. It offers several peaceful and charming environments including tranquil beech forest, craggy mountains, clear streams and two beautiful lakes Rotoiti and Rotorua. It is renowned for its magical honeydew beech forests, which feed a variety of native birds. Jodhpur, the Blue City of India

Jodhpur lies in the Thar Desert region. The spirit of the inhabitants of this city is reflected in the blue color that can be seen everywhere in the old town. The blue colour also brings with it a wave of fresh breeze with it in the otherwise arid climate of the city.

Kilchurn Castle, Scotland

Kilchurn Castle, Scotland

At the northeastern end of Loch Awe, Argyll and Bute, lies Kilchurn Castle. It is one of the most romantic castle ruins in Scotland. Its picturesque setting on the shores of Loch Awe ensures gorgeous views of it in every season. Part of its charm lies in the difficult access to the castle.
Kilchurn Castle was built in about 1450 by Sir Colin Campbell, first Lord of Glenorchy. Originally on an island, now on a promontory due to water levels.

Loreto Island on Lake Iseo, Italy

Loreto, a small island (Isola di Loreto) on Lake Iseo is situated on the territory of Northern Italy. It is not exactly crowded with people, but it’s almost entirely taken up by a castle, making it an unforgettable visual. Privately owned, the island was once the site of cloisters for the Sisters of Santa Chiara, built in 1400.

Marqueyssac Gardens, Vézac, France

Marqueyssac Gardens, Vézac, France

The Château de Marqueyssac is a 17th century chateau and gardens located at Vézac, in the Dordogne. It was built in the 17th century by Bertrand Vernet de Marqueyssac, Counselor to Louis XIV.
Located on the on cliffs overlooking the Dordogne Valley it is known for its gardens. Between 1830 and 1840, Julien Bessières constructed a chapel and a grand alley one hundred meters long for horseback rides. In the 1860s, the new owner, Julien de Cervel, began to plant thousands of boxwood trees - today there are over 150,000 - and had them carved in fantastic shapes, many in groups of rounded shapes like flocks of sheep. He also added linden trees, cypress trees, and stone pine from Italy, and introduced the cyclamen from Naples. There are five kilometers of waling trails.
After a period where everything fell into decay, in 1996 the gardens were restored. http://www.marcuslink.com/travel/journal/france/aquitaine/chateau_Marqueyssac.html
