Sulabh Museum of Toilets, New Dehli, India

There is such a peculiar museum named Sulabh International Museum of Toilets in New Delhi, India. The museum not only shows the ancient Indian brick sewers of over 4000 years, medieval potty, but also high-tech toilets used in submarines and spacecraft. The exhibits are very rich of everything about the toilets from ancient times to the present, simply the history of the development of toilets. Visitors can get to know the history of the evolution of the toilet from different angles of interest, technology and etiquette. The museum also has a collection of  toilet and related items reproductions that many celebrities used.

The museum is not too big, but the good collection of exhibits is really an eye opener.

Seven Dials, London
« Reply #421 on: September 13, 2012, 12:17:22 PM »

Seven Dials, London

Seven dials is the name for a road junction and the immediate neighborhood surrounding it in the West End of London near Covent Garden. Here, seven streets converge at a roundabout, at the center of which is a pillar with six sundials.

The neighborhood, which has enjoyed a resurgence in the last few decades, consists of narrow streets and alleyways that cater to pedestrians. Its unique character showcases the role of historic buildings in creating livable streets.

Always think British buildings are too solemn traditions, here it is definitely an exception -- personality characteristics are lined with small shops. It is the new trend London landmarks in recent years. The place is not big, but you can spend a whole afternoon. You can imagine how  large charm it has.

Finca Bellavista, Costa Rica

Finca Bellavista, Costa Rica

Finca Bellavista is located in a relatively pristine part of Costa Rica far removed from the hubbub of the outside world.

An American couple, Erica and Matt Hogan, spent 5 years creating a large tree house village in the rainforest. The tree houses have permanent residents, but also entertain visitors, like a bucolic township far away from the noise of the city.

The treetop neighborhood is still growing and there has been a lot of progress since its inception less than 5 years ago. The completed base camp has a vast community complex with a dining hall, an open-air lounge (with Wifi – hey, nothing wrong with checking Facebook and reading Inhabitat from the rainforest), a rancho, a bath house, a campfire ring and a wedding garden.

Tallinn, Estonia

If you desire to see a fairy-tale city, Tallinn will not let you down. Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is the only one city in northern Europe that maintains the medieval appearance and style.

The historical centre of Tallinn has been listed with UNESCO as a world heritage site. This old Hanseatic town is well worth a visit as a balance has been struck between preserving old architecture and renovating the center with lots of pleasant bars and pubs.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a town in Middle Franconia (Germany, Bavaria), well known for its well-preserved medieval old town and a destination for tourists from around the world.
As to the name "Rothenburg", some say it comes from the German words Rot (Red) and Burg (burg, medieval fortified town), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river Tauber. (en.Wikipedia)

Tower Bridge, London
« Reply #433 on: September 17, 2012, 12:26:02 AM »

Tower Bridge, London

Tower Bridge is the first bridge (15 bridges on River Thames) from  London Thames Estuary, also a symbol of London, known as "London's main entrance". The bridge was built in 1886 and open to the public on June 30, 1894, connected south London and North District into a whole.

However the walk across the bridge is stunning, the detail in the stone and ironwork is breathtaking and its easy to see why people flock to the bridge each year.  From the bridge you have great views of the Tower of London, HMS Belfast, St Katherine’s Dock and of course London Bridge.

Walking over this bridge is an experience in itself, standing in the middle you can see where the bascules (drawbridges) meet, giving you a sense of the engineering and power needed to lift them skyward.  If you are going to London this is a bridge you have to cross.

Ghost Town Of The Moscow Region
« Reply #434 on: September 17, 2012, 12:44:28 AM »

Ghost Town Of The Moscow Region

An abandoned town that was accidentally found in the forests of the Moscow region, Zelenograd. And no one knows why the town would be abandoned. The old buildings in the village almost kept very much intact, but empty, almost like a ghost town. The village retains the original look,  inside it there is an empty church, a dry creek, prisons and appalling death penalty.

It has now become tourist attractions like museum houses.
