)

Here, a very important part. He (Heng Santha) admitted that he's riding drunken and afraid of incidents, I told him to be careful but he didn't and... then borrow my USD 100 when he was arrested in the police station to pay there something and... never returned the money; deleted and blocked our Telegrams' communications and impudently said that he's not afraid of the Cambodian police and we can go to report him for stealing the money.
 See:

Other topics / Re: People of which country are the richest?
« on: January 29, 2024, 12:48:51 AM »
I remembered something very important about it. One should never forger because when it is about the GDP per capita, it also matters which place (city, town, village) in the country you're talking about!!! :) For example, some little towns in a very rich (per capita) country (like Finland, Norway, Sweden, etc.) have got less (GDP per capita) than some cities in countries like India, China, Mexico, etc.
Let's see Shanghai, taken alone, as an example. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chinese_administrative_divisions_by_GDP_per_capita, in 2022 it (Shanghai, China) had GDP per capita of USD 26747. More than the average GDP per capita of some countries in Europe (like Serbia, Belarus and even the EU's Bulgaria.) Shanghai's level is around the average one of Malaysia (USD 26300). (All data seen in https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/field/real-gdp-per-capita/country-comparison.) But if you live in China's Guizhou province, where the GDP per capita was USD 7779, oh, it's really another story. This GDP per capita is around the one of Laos (USD 7800) or Venezuela (USD 7704)...
I bet that it also matters which district of Shanghai we're taking into consideration, when we are going to make the conclusions about this kind of matter.
And, at the end, as my friend said
Quote
the wealth of a country is a different story from the wealth of the ppl of it.
and I'd like to use it to say "the wealth of a city is a different story from the wealth of the people of it", i. e. even in (not poor) cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, etc., there were and there will be poor people and very poor people.
If you want to learn about it (the wealth, money, rich and poor) more, take a time to see a very important index -- the Gini index (which helps you better to know the matters related to the GDPs per capita, especially). 8)

;D ;) ;D ;) ;D ;)

Here is the ful answer. Enjoy and learn (and debate, please).

606
I just posted it too early, now I am editing my post, please, read again after some hours. (Too much stress because of my money problems with the Cambodian cheater and my Bulgarian father and sometimes "losing control".  :) )
Of course, I never said everything of Buddhism was correct. What I was aruging with you is whether Buddhism is pessimistic or optimistic and why Buddhism could 'liberate' you. And I was elucidating why those things made sense to me. Buddhism itself also tells not to 'put it on pedestral' so that you should think of as everything it says as right.

But shouldn't we get back to the story? ;D What else are the 'scientific dharmas of happiness'

Did you read my edited (added) answer above? If so, ignore the rest. It's only for the summary:

 - Psychology (and anthropology): to know what you really are and what are your real needs, nature, etc. from a scientific point of view, for example, to know that you're a mammal not a reptile and to know that you're a product of the natural evolution, not a God/god's creation.

 - Everything else based on scientific method/methods (mathematics, dietology, economics, sociology, geography, etc.) to help you being in good shape and health (very basic things for the happiness, because "Health isn't everything but without health everything is nothing."), to help you avoid cheaters, to help you know where the society and the nature are safer, etc.

607
Ready! Added more important parts. Please, re-read it again and I'll continue tomorrow.  8) :D /It's a bit sad when a philosopher and a scientist have to deal with daily routines like this ones here: to figure out how to find a good place to sell out shelves, to cook dinner, to kill some mosquitoes..., instead to spend all his energy to produce useful knowledge like that above... But this is it... The poor philosophers had to do it. Remember Spinoza? "Spinoza /巴鲁赫·斯宾诺莎/ earned a modest living from lens-grinding and instrument making..." + "Spinoza's health began to fail in 1676, dying in The Hague on 21 February 1677 at the age of 44... Although he had been ill with some form of lung affliction..., perhaps complicated by silicosis brought on by grinding glass lenses..." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baruch_Spinoza)/
People tend to think that many of the good philosopher, writers, etc. are/were rich and lived a happy life just because they were clever and helped others... but if you read most of their biographies you will find out that they were not rich and even had miserable lives... I am something like this currently (but at least, at last, a way better than my recent years in Xi's China, where I had even no right to teach English, Russian, Korean, Bulgarian, Tatar legally...)

608

Appreciations! This is the way I like -- someone to take into consideration (i. e. thinking carefully about a particular fact when deciding or judging something) when we debate it.
Thank you very much for your mature attitude and for understanding that I was debating without bad intentions.
And straight to the topic (my style; trying not to waste time):

 1) There are (in Buddhism, and in other religions) things that are right, useful, good. If we're true scientists we shouldn't ignore the things that are right (religious or non-religious). This is what I learned before from an Armenian (Soviet) philosopher (1926-2015) who reminded the old rule that from everything you can take the reasonable and the right thing, don't ignore it in 100%.
 For example,

1.1. "Things derive their being and nature by mutual dependence and are nothing in themselves." (This is 100% scientific and philosophical because it's stating the universal relationship of the things, simply like "If there is no Earth, we'll be not able to exist." or "If you kill all of the flora and fauna, you're a dead man.") /Nagarjuna/

1.2. "Although you may spend your life killing, you will not exhaust all your foes. But if you quell your own anger, your real enemy will be slain." (Also, nearly science related, because it's a simple, but true psychological and/or mathematical conclusion that if you're negative, the chance to get more enemies is higher than if you're positive and keep low profile.) /Nagarjuna/

1.3. "Everything in moderation, including moderation." (Very dialectical, exact and wise!) /Buddha/

1.4. "One moment can change a day, one day can change a life, and one life can change the world." (Almost the same as the Butterfly effect! (蝴蝶效应, in Chinese, you should know it.))

 2) There are obviously wrong (or semi-wrong at best) Buddhist statements like these:

2.1. "Since all is empty, all is possible." (First, he didn't prove the emptiness. Second, he didn't realize the nature of the possibility -- there are 3 kinds of it: formal possibility /i. e., only thinkable, but nearly 100% impossible, /, abstract possibility, i. e. somewhat possible and real possibility, i. e. the one that is very easy to become a reality (like Xi Jinping dies soon and China has a better leader like Hu Jintao, at least!))  /Nagarjuna/

2.2. "Pain is certain; suffering is optional." (Which is true only when it comes to mild problems like "My relatives don't want to give me the property." /our present COMMON problem, my friend, which makes me feel you even closer!/... Well, LET US say that we may ignore that I am losing my thousands of EUROs apartment in Bulgaria and you're not getting your millions of RMB in China... we can just "ignore those lacking off empathy and greedy relatives"... but WHAT IF we really suffer from some physical pain like kidney stones? There is almost no way to say "I feel my kidney like hell, but, hey, no worries! Ii is optional!"... Most of the tough people who are tortured, sooner or later, give up. The physical pain isn't a joke. This is one of the reason why the bad dictators, bullies, etc. do win. They just cause a severe pain, physical, semi-physical or mental, but a pain... )
See, I know that there are SOME monks (and even ordinary, non-religious people) who can feel no pain or ignore the pain, or stand the pain (to the level when they do some scary protest like "I burn myself!!!"...), but it's all about the outliers (异数, in Chinese, right?).

And, at the end, the answer:

 3) Well, the felicitology (the "science" or philosophy of happiness) is something that (as I learned during my university's years) something impossible, unrealistic because of "happiness" is too subjective. The happiness for a girl who can't walk is to be able to run on the green grass; the happiness for an incel is just to have a loving Betty or Stacy; the happiness for you is to live happily in Shanghai, but for me is to live happily in Hainan (if the neo-emperor somehow 下台 /steps down/ or just die as soon as possible) because I love China and I love the Tropical places...

So, let's take into account your concrete subjective situation:

3.1. You want to be in Shanghai + to have a Shanghai girl... Oh, there is nothing in science that can help you to achieve the happiness (this goal) except the ultra-maxx (yes, I know it sounds silly from the perspective of the colleagues, noncels and the common science, but what I do is to use the incels' jargon). Ultra-maxx, in this case includes:

- money-maxx (and/or property-maxx, car-maxx, status-maxx, etc.) because you can't very easy satisfy a Chinese woman and especially a Chinese woman from Shanghai. Yes, there were some native ones, who claimed that the native Shanghai females weren't so greedy and all the greed came from the new-comers, from the surrounding villages, other places of China, etc. but still, ,if you are house-less, car-less, status-less in Shanghai... "good luck" with a local marriage!

3.2. If  you lower your goals (something like me -- just trying to be happy in the poorer SEA-countries), then you even don't need any science!
 Here, you're enough:

- white
- tall
- good nose-d
- rich (extremely rich!!!)
- you can have instantly a good house, a Toyota (already high-status or around) and a lot of decent girls to like you (not only gold-diggers).

3.3. If we're not talking about you but about the average person, well, then the science that helps your happiness is almost everything: yes, you have to know your brain and psychology, but also you have to be good at geography (for example, to choose a place without earthquakes, typhoons, volcanoes, etc.), to be good at learning languages (the sooner you learn the foreign language the better!), to be good at elementary math (at least count well the money and the prices, because some locals think "Foreigner = rich" and/or "Foreigner = must pay more!"), etc.
So, practically, almost all branches of the science may help you to improve your happiness. Last example, knowing hygiene, can save you from getting some easy to avoid (but terrible) disease like echinococcosis (Chinese name: 胞蟲症)...

My friend, you are one of the most informed and intelligent young Chinese I know. But in this case you're wrong (about the second part of the problem you wrote about). The first part is correct 💯, that a rich country doesn't mean rich population and India is one of the best examples. But let me go to the second part: you, as many other Chinese citizens, overestimate the wealth of the average US citizen. So your guess that the richest people are the USA's or Britain's is wrong. According to the CIA's factbook, the richest (GDP per Capita) are Liechtenstein, Monaco, Luxembourg, Singapore, Ireland and Qatar. And, as you know, most of them are unknown to most of the Chinese who know only around 10-15 countries around the world. The geography knowledge of many Chinese isn't good, it's a fact that I am writing objectively, regardless that I am a Chinese fan. But back to the USA and UK. You don't have to compare them with the top richest like Liechtenstein or Monaco! Even Switzerland or Norway (pet capita) are better.
USA is between SAR Macao (澳门) and Brunei. And UK is worse, it's between Taiwan and France.
So, I am not saying that the average citizen of USA and UK is too poor, of course, we (people from East Europe and China) can dream to have their GDP per capita. ;D I just disagree to put them on the top which is far away from the reality. About China's GDP per capita, currently it's around the level of Mexico and Thailand. Developing countries' level... Here is the source: https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/field/real-gdp-per-capita/country-comparison/

I want it too... Especially when I can't dream (for a long time) what I want. For example, nearly half year, I didn't dream Long Jun-Hong: (but I think about her almost every week like "Is she alright?", "Is she still in Haikou?", "What will be the effect of the present more and more ultranationalistic and highly subjective Chinese education in Xi's China (Xina) on her?" and some others like "Is she going to live in China forever or she will move abroad later?", "What is her brother doing?", "Are her parents doing still well in there?") but, alas, no dreams about her for so long! And the day before yesterday, at last, I dreamed that we met (I think it was abroad, not in China) and she said "I missed you!" and I asked: "And why you didn't add my Telegram?"  ;D and this dream made me (when I woke up) so much happier, more optimistic, more balanced and I even (nearly) forgot all those traumas that I had recently (the noisy neighbors in China, the endless lockdowns of the neo-emperor, etc. ... and then, here in Cambodia, all those shocks -- my father decided to give his apartment to his girlfriend and a Cambodian man (Heng Santha) refused to pay us back his 100 dollars debt.)
So, of course, it's a sort of escapism but if you (at the same time) work hard (and work smart) to become a better version of yourself (stronger, healthier, richer, smarter, etc.) then it may be very supportive in fact. It's like the rest for the bodybuilders. If you are a bodybuilder and you don't take a rest, your progress can't be good. You also can't be a bodybuilder if you are only resting. The necessary combination is hard/smart work out + enough rest. And this is exactly the same when we're talking about the lucid dreams: only lucid dreams may be something that ruins your life but a combination of lucid dreams + self-improvement (sports, knowledge, skills, earnings and so on) is another (ideal, I'd say) story! 8) :) :-*

EARN MONEY / 100% agreed
« on: January 26, 2024, 11:43:01 PM »
You see, when it's something that I share the same or very close opinion, I come to support you at once (not having any bad feeling against you). :)
So, I do agree 100% about that -- there are some crazy Chinese who really think so because of their mental disorders, but the vast majority of them are just low-educated financially (economically) and/or more greedy than the average Chinese person.
I also met some Chinese people who (being rich) were thinking that sums (of money) like 100 000 yuan (around USD 14,097.24 now) are "not expensive". They just can't imagine that there are people (in China) who are working for 2000 yuan/month (around USD 281.94 now) -- for example some of the cleaners or waiters/waitress and shop assistants in Hainan province of (still so-called) PRC.
So, if it comes to USD 1 000 000 (which currently equals ~ RMB 7 000 000: 7,093,600.00 yuan now, to be exact, according to Google's information), only very rich (or very uninformed or really stupid) people may think that it's "so-so". I mean, yes, if you are having USD 100 000 000, for you, objectively, the 1% of this money is a "so-so" amount. But for a person with income RMB 2000, as those mentioned above in Hainan island, it's NOT AT ALL "so-so" because the simple arithmetics shows this (let's take an example with "only" 1 million yuan):

1000000 / 2000 = 500 (One million renminbis / 2000 renminbi (one salary) = 500 salaries) and 500 / 12 = 41.66(6) (500 salaries / 12 months = around 42 years going to work). Which shows that most of these people (and most, or at least many, of the people around the world) will never receive that much (1 000 000 yuan).

So, this is it. If some Chinese (or a person from another nationality, it's not the point) states that USD 1 mln. is "just so-so", he or she is filthy rich and/or he/she lacks of "touch with reality" (out of touch with reality).

(Objectively, the perception of 1 000 000 US dollars depends on where you are. If you're in Singapore where you need to pay 20 dollars for a dish it may be something like "so-so", but if you're in Cambodia where the same dish costs only 1,50 dollars, then the same sum of money (1 million US dollars) is a lot and a dream).

Oh, now I see what "Russian" you meant. Yes, as it was stated above, the letters are similar (in fact, they're almost the same; the difference is that Russians use a few more). The origin is the same (Cyrillic script). The script (in Chinese -- "西里尔字母" or "西里尔文") script was created during the First Bulgarian Empire based on Greek and some Bulgar (西匈奴的) letters/characters.
I can't laugh if some Chinese don't make difference between Russian script and Bulgarian script because, for example, there are many Europeans and others who don't make any difference between Chinese and Japanese (and even worse -- between Chinese and Korean.) Nobody is omni-knowledgeable, so we learn all life long.
But a "bio" was really a bit more. :)
OK, we can close the memory related sub-topic here. :) If you are sure everything is okay, we don't need to continue it. Of course, as a Harvard fan, you may be interested to see the Harvard's opinion about what diet is good for a better memory (limiting the red meat, yes, but not all kinds of meat, i. e. a vegetarian (including the Buddhist) diet isn't the best for the memory): https://www.health.harvard.edu/mind-and-mood/boost-your-memory-by-eating-right.
About the time of the birth, most of the average intelligent people usually know who is born B.C., so I wasn't impressed even the time when I learned for the first time (after the primary school period). Usually it's not very important when someone was born when it comes to ethics, philosophy, literature and some others parts of the knowledge (culture) because some of these people born B.C. like the ancient philosophers were smarter than some of the nowadays people (which even can't read, i.e. the illiterate people). Usually the truth isn't strictly related to the time. For example, if someone, 3000 years ago said "1 + 8 = 9" he/she is right and knows the math better than another one, who right now, a second ago, said that it equals 48237648231746821376562197.  ;D ;D But when it is about more concrete knowledge (and not only) like what is better to eat, what is the Solar system, are there germs and viruses, etc., the ancient people (even the smartest of them) just couldn't know it because it's related with the level of the science and techniques, industry, etc. That is why I prefer to rely on the modern science when I want to know what is better for my health, for my attitudes, for my successful existence in the world than to trust someone like Mohammed, Jesus, Buddha, etc., who even didn't know (and had no way to know!) stuff like: how many planets are there in our Solar system, how to produce electricity (at least on theory, like us), what is a germ, a virus, a molecule, an atom, an electron..., what is sushi,... they really had NO ANY IDEA that there are continents like America (Americas) and Antarctica. ([irony=100%level]They even did't know "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era" (“习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想”)[/irony]) So, with their limited knowledge (facts) base, it's logical that they couldn't give you advise the same as some modern scholar.
