In case if you wonder "Is it possible to communicate with the dead people?", this is a good information for you. In science they call it "After-death communication".
"After-death communications are communications that either are believed to or appear to have been received from a person who has died.
Precise definitions of ADCs vary. According to Bill and Judith Guggenheim, an ADC occurs when a person is "contacted directly and spontaneously by a deceased family member or friend, without the use of psychics, mediums, rituals, or devices of any kind" (Guggenheim 2005).
Psychologist Allan Botkin uses the term induced after-death communication IADC (Botkin 2005) for his practice of inducing perceived reconnections with key people for grief therapy.
Prevalence of ADCs
"It's estimated that 50-100 million Americans - 20-40% of the population of the United States - have had one or more ADC experiences" (Guggenheim 2005).

The question is if the dead people are ABLE to communicate. As far as we know there are no proves that something dead (including the Homo Sapiens - present people) are able to communicate.

Well, at first we should think is that claim true. (It may be a joke; it may be a hallucination and so on), and then we may talk more about it. Here is what I think about such cases:
Well, my mother passed away, too (years ago). If I was at his place, I will be very interested if someone can really talk to her (I don't think it's scary, creepy and so on, but I think it's probably impossible as far as I know from the present science). And I can very easy say if he/she (the one who claims to talk with the dead people) is a liar, because I can ask, for example, some specific questions that only I and my mother knew/know. And again: but the important is that the science still didn't prove any 'life after death, devils, gods, souls, angels, ghosts, etc., so, everyone,don't worry about it if you face such case, most probably it's just a sort of prank/joke/mental disorder...

And we did it. Maybe, in future, someone will try with 2999, 3000, 3001, etc. ;D More science (+ normal philosophy), people, this is one of the main conditions to be happier!

In Western countries I believe it is an extremely difficult thing to believe. But in Asian countries, let's say take my country as example, we do have a ritual in which the shaman will summon the soul of a deceased person (normally it is a relative of a family) and let it "possess" a living person. The soul will speak and answer questions through that possessed person.
Interesting enough, that soul can answer exactly what happened years ago, including things which only that soul or his/her family know.
When the ritual is done, the summoned soul will go away and the possessed person becomes him/herself again. Though depending on different people, they may experience tiredness.
This sort of ritual still exists nowadays, though it is no longer common. And of course, there are fake shamans who cannot summon souls, they exploit people's lack of knowledge to scam.

As far as there are no scientific proofs that there are real "souls", "ghosts", etc., everyone who claims that he's/she's a shaman and can speak with the so called "souls", "ghosts", etc. should be considered as "fake".
Interesting enough, that soul can answer exactly what happened years ago, including things which only that soul or his/her family know.
Usually this is something that is coincidence or just tricking (the "shaman" and the relatives know each other and they prepare earlier the questions and the answers).
If someone wants to try it and to see that it's impossible, try to summon the soul of my mother and ask that "soul" in which village she was a teacher + who was her best friend before she died. Two very simple questions, but there is no shaman that can answer them. ;D So, don't believe without proofs.
