Title: Words of wisdom, wise quotes, inspiring words...
Post by: SEO on February 19, 2011, 04:02:16 AM
Read this:

"The wise man speaks because he has something to say, the fool because he has to say something."
I admire the exactly saying "has something to say" and "has to say something". It's useful about learning English in addition to the wisdom itself.

Title: As a philosopher Geser Kurultaev wants to say...
Post by: MSL on September 23, 2011, 12:06:07 PM

Advice To Live By

http://www.funnywebsite.com/advice.php

As a philosopher Geser Kurultaev wants to say (and judge, and explain) these points clearly:

"1. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully"

Not necessary. Not in any case. For instance - what about if this people do not deserve it?

"2. Memorize your favorite poem"

Well, it's alright. As a poet (not only as a philosopher), I like it and I did it.

"3. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have, or sleep all you want"

Sure. Doubt everything, especially when you have no enough information to make the reasonable conclusion!
Savings are good, but the good investment is better.
Moderate sleep is probably the best.

"4. When you say, "I love you," mean it."

Sometimes it's okay to say it, without mean it, because it helps to make somebody happy. And there is a real possibility in the future really to become love him/her. Depends...

"5. When you say, "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye."

Who knows is it the optimal way? Someones prefer people to hug them when they're saying "I'm sorry" or to say it kneeling  :) ... Depends...

"6. Be engaged at least six months before you get married and get your parents approval."

It's desirable. Not every time possible.

"7. Believe in love at first sight"

Why? It's just a special case and it's not love, it's mostly infatuation.

"8. Never laugh at anyone's dreams."

Be polite, but if the dreams are crazy, harmful, self-destroying...? Then the reaction is necessary. The constructive criticism is necessary with or without laugh.

"9. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt, but it's the only way to live life completely."

Don't think that the completeness of the life depends not only of the deep and passionate love. And the successful love is not every time the passionate one.

10. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

Yes. Be reasonable, objective and civilized!

 To be continued...

Title: As a philosopher Geser Kurultaev would like to say...(part 2)
Post by: MSL on April 20, 2012, 03:39:13 PM

Advice To Live By

http://www.funnywebsite.com/advice.php

It's time for part 2 of my analysis of these quotes.

11. Don't judge people by their relatives.

True. Brother and sister, mother and son, uncle and nephew...they all may be so different. Don't need to think about the relatives, think about the concrete person first. Relatives may provide some additional helpful information, but mostly it's about the concrete person, his/her biography, DNA, experience, etc.

12. Talk slow but think quick.

It's not that important how slow/fast are you talking. Thinking quick is alright, but it's about the quantity (speed). It's also important to think well, to produce quality thinking.

13. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?"

LOL!  ;D And then what? Hopefully he/she will forget about the question?  ;) It's better to say that you prefer not to say, it's a secret, etc.

14. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

Risk depends of many factors. The "size" of the love or the achievements do not correlate with the risk.

15. Call your Mom.

A bit frivolous. What about if there is no mom? Or if you and your mom are living together?...

16. Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.

 OK. Polite.

17. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

 Right.

18. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all your actions.

 Alright.

19. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

 A good quote!

20. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

Sometimes there is no way to correct it. Then, at least - remorse (I'm sorry!) and excuse (Excuse me, please!).

 To be continued...

I had a linguistics professor who said that it's man's ability to use language that makes him the dominant species on the planet. That may be. But I think there's one other thing that separates us from animals. We aren't afraid of vacuum cleaners.
Jeff Stilson

I never knew my father was an alcoholic until he came home sober one night...
Andre Botes

I no longer wish to belong to the kind of club that accepts people like me as members.

Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.
Gandhi

The beautiful part of writing is that you don't have to get it right the first time, unlike, say, a brain surgeon.

There's a lot we should be able to learn from history. And yet history proves that we never do. In fact, the main lesson of history is that we never learn the lessons of history. Life is like a box of chocolates...a cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-shattering nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a...is an empty box...filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.
'Musings of a Cigarette-Smoking Man,' The X-Files

About "rely on others"

Don't rely on others too much, because only you will never abandon yourself.

Don't rely on others; you are to live on your own.

Do not rely on others for what you can do yourself.

Don't rely on others to do your work.

Yes, like the girlfriends and friends. Usually but not always. Some friends are also not good people and can ruin the friendship very easy.  Also, there are people who may become your friends even after once they were your girlfriends (boyfriends). So, it depends, but mostly true.

BE SMART ENOUGH TO REALIZE THESE:

1. Someone makes 10x more than you do in a 9-5 job because they have more "leverage" with their work.

2. Distraction is the greatest killer of success. It stunts and destroys your brain.

3. You shouldn't take advice from people who are not where you want to be in life.

4. No one is coming to save your problems. Your life's 100% your responsibility.

5. You don't need 100 self-help books, all you need is action and self discipline.

6. Unless you went to college to learn a specific skill (ie. doctor, engineer, lawyer), you can make more money in the next 90 days just learning sales.

7. No one cares about you. So stop being shy, go out and create your chances.

8. If you find someone smarter than you, work with them, don't compete.

9. Smoking has 0 benefit in your life. This habit will only slow your thinking and lower your focus.

10. Comfort is the worst addiction and cheap ticket to depression.

11. Don't tell people more than they need to know, respect your privacy.

12. Avoid alcohol at all cost. Nothing worse than losing your senses and acting a fool.

13. Keep your standards high and don't settle for something because it's available.

14. The family you create is more important than the family you come from.

15. Train yourself to take nothing personally to save yourself from 99.99% of mental problems.
