The cost of living in Singapore
Yesterday, I was surprised. A good friend of mine was invited to work in Singapore. He never plan to work there, as far as I know and I am not sure if he will in the future, but I decided to check out the cost of living in Singapore. I find this source now:
http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/city_result.jsp?country=Singapore&city=Singapore
I like this source and I will count the cost of living for him (approximately, of course).
1. Living. I think it is OK, to rent an apartment (an one bedroom apartment), outside of Centre. It is $ 1,582.73.
2. Internet. We're an Internet generation. ;D We can't live without it. So...Internet (6 Mbps, Unlimited Data, Cable/ADSL) is $ 33.07.
3. Basic utilities (Electricity, Gas, Water, Garbage) for 85m2 Apartment -- $ 160.22.
4. Transportation. One-way Ticket (Local Transport) $ 1.38. Well, let's count 2 tickets per day, i.e. 60 per month, then: 60 x $ 1.38 = $ 82.8.
5. Water. Water (1.5 liter bottle) $ 1.29. OK, let it be 15 bottles/month, i.e. $ 19.35.
6. Beer (if he wish, I am not sure). Imported Beer (0.33 liter bottle) $ 4.21. 4 beers x $ 4.21 = $ 16.84.
7. Food:
Milk (regular), 1 liter $ 2.15 ... 4 liters x $ 2.15 = $ 8.6.
Loaf of Fresh White Bread (500g) $ 1.59 ... 8 loaves of bread x $ 1.59 = $ 12.72.
Eggs (12) $ 2.03 ... 4 eggs (12) x $ 2.03 = $ 8.12.
Local Cheese (1kg) $ 10.65. 1 kg is OK!
Chicken Breasts (Boneless, Skinless), (1kg) ... $ 7.61. 4 kg. x $ 7.61 = $ 30.44.
Apples (1kg) $ 2.80 ... 6 kg apples x $ 2.80 = $ 16.80.
Oranges (1kg) $ 2.62 ... 6 kg oranges x $ 2.62 = $ 15.72.
Potato (1kg) $ 1.90 ... 20 kg. potatoes x $ 1.90 = $ 38.00.
Lettuce (1 head) $ 1.24 $ ... 30 heads (lettuce) x $ 1.24 = $ 37.20.
8. Restaurant
Meal for 2, Mid-range Restaurant, Three-course $ 37.31
If twice per month, then: $ 37.31 x 2 = $ 74.62.
9. Leisure
Cinema Cinema, International Release, 1 Seat $ 8.00
If twice per month, then: $ 8.00 x 2 = $ 16.00.
10. Other
I don't know what else to count, but let's count "X", "Other", "unexpected spending" - $ 150.
And now, let us count! :) According to my calculation it is $ 2321.88. Check it carefully, once again and try other sources, if you're going to visit and live there!

Let's count again. :)
1,582.73 + 33.07 = 1615.80
1615.80 + 160.22 = 1776.02
1776.02 + 82.8 = 1858.82
1858.82 + 19.35 = 1878.17
1878.17 + 16.84 = 1895.01
1895.01 + 8.6 = 1903.61
1903.61 + 12.72 = 1916.33
1916.33 + 8.12 = 1924.45
1924.45 + 10.65 = 1935.10
1935.10 + 30.44 = 1965.54
1965.54 + 16.80 = 1982.34
1982.34 + 15.72 = 1998.06
1998.06 + 38.00 = 2036.06
2036.06 + 37.20 = 2073.26
2073.26 + 74.62 = 2147.88
2147.88 + 16.00 = 2163.88
2163.88 + 150.00 = 2313.88
May be the first time (1st calculation) used one more cinema ticket. In this case: 2313.88 + 8.00 = 2321.88. But it's almost the same.

Yes, but if you have a good, stable job and house/flat, you can do it. Where are you from? You can tell me, if you don't mind and you can give me some examples about the prices around you. It's interesting to know... :)

I bet he's from somewhere like India... one of those who're (were) here only to link there websites and to leave us forever.
And Singapore is a place only for rich people, indeed.
