Great topic thread!
I'm very rusty in tags and codes, been ages since I was on forums and have forgotten most of what I knew. Was at a time I typed them on the fly.
Wondering if [noparse] Hello [/noparse] works. It does with some software and not with others.
-
That's right. Not every single BBCode may work in every website. This is what I know.
-
Oh, I'm happy you find it useful! Glad to be useful and creative a bit around. 8)
-
Mojo HOW ARE YOU? 8) It is not necessery to remember all of these BBcodes, because we have got buttons above every 'POST REPLY'. When you are repling you can click above them: the letter B is for bold, next to it is the letter I for italicized, next to it is U for underline and so on. Under them are our blue lovely emoticons: :) ;) :D ;D >:( :( , etc.
You are a good writer; I mean you post quick, meaningfully and in good quantity + quality. Just because of this I think you are entirelly alright without any code. But when you need our help, just ask some of us. We can find at least once in 24 hours some free time to explain more. But we're not geeks and we can help only sometimes, when you have simpler questions like these related to the HTML, BBCode, SEO, SEM, SMO and ... I don't remember what else, because I had some drinks this evening! :-[ :-[ CHEERS!

*Blushes*
Thank you Alexa. You folk are making me feel right at home.
It will just take a bit of time and I'll get used to it. It's a little different than the tags for vBulletin but given time I'll pick it up. Normally I'm used to typing the tags on the fly. The software here doesn't show that and without the edit you can't go back and look.
But that is ok, I understand the whys of it not being there and it's a small inconvenience that can be overcome.
-
I also suggest the function Toggle View. It's the last red A in the right corner (second raw). If you click it once it allows you to see the coding in real time, for instance: you type
[b]bold[/b]
and it show it at the real time bold.
I don't want to compare, but I really feel this code here is much MORE and much easier than the one in Reddit.com and the similar websites (Voat.co, Skimur.com).
And I think the most useful for a forum/comment are only 3-4 codes like H1 (H2, H3), bold, underline, colors and images (i.e. [img][/img]
)... everything else is just for fun or semi-fun. :)
-
Thanks for the assistance. Given time I'll pick it up, no doubt. With aids like this hard not to.
Thanks again!

I found some more that we don't use often (or don't use at all), but it may be interesting for some of you around:
PRC: [abbr=People's Republic of China]PRC[/abbr]
bold, italicized, strong, etc.: [html]<b>bold</b>, <i>italicized</i>, <strong>strong</strong>, etc.[/html]

I think bbcode is mainly used in the forum post and some message board even though it is an useful information any way great work
-
I do agree with Johnnie Walk!
-
No matter how much you know, it seems you never learn it all. I'll be picking at this from time to time when I hit something I want to know more about. I've one or two I've been meaning to pick up from these for occasional usage.
-
I learned it step by step. 1 or 2 BBCodes per month. :P And I still can't use them all, but, in fact it's not necessary. I think that from 10 to maximum 15 are enough for a normal forum activity.
-
I'm sort of the oddball I guess. I'll take the extra time to add stuff, like unicode or other items to add a differing touch to a post to make it a unique style.
As you say, mostly 10 or 15 cover most usages. Never really did care for the buttons all that much. I long ago got used to typing tags on the fly and once you do that for a while, it's hard to go back to mousing tags. Guess that's just me or for folks such as yourself that are on a software for a while. Most of the basics are the same such as bold and italics. Some of the others I'll be switching views between the plain text and autotag to get them down.

If someone is good at HTML, this code (BBCode) can't be a problem for him or her. Examples:
<h1>h1</h1>
= [h1]h1[/h1]
, <b>bold</b>
= [b]bold[/b]
, <a href="url">link text</a>
= [url=url]link text[/url]
,
<ul>
<li>list 1</li>
<li>list 2</li>
<li>list 3</li>
</ul>
,
[list]
[li]list 1[/li]
[li]list 2[/li]
[li]list 3[/li]
[/list]
You can see the similarity.
Here is something important, that I mentioned and you'll like to know: for some days I wondered again and again, why I can't repair a quote in one of your posts. When I tried to repair it, the message was that there is 'empty' post. The message was: The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:
The message body was left empty.
Well, then I notices you added a sign at the beginning, which was something like 'grin' sign (it's 'grinning', I think). I removed it from your message and voila! The quote repaired successfully: http://www.seo-forum-seo-luntan.com/social-network-seo-social-network/feedback-what-do-you-dislike-in-seo-forum-seo-luntan-com/msg27084/#msg27084 :)
So, when you have a problem with the post or the post's preview, probably it's because of something small like this. I have no idea why here that 'grin' sign isn't 'welcome'. Software bug or server protection? But it's not important, so no worries. :)
-
I probably have the answer for you on why the lack of editing on the smiley grin. Usually in unicode you get something that is slightly smaller than the one used for the display so that you can see the details earlier. In this case I used the display, not the actual unicode because it was larger. What I didn't think about was the forum software capturing all the default code from the source site that does so. I simply didn't think of it and proceeded to type the rest of the post. I suspect the final tag kept moving with the text but didn't display this.
Along you come, try to edit it, and again it doesn't show the tags that bind the text to the symbol.
-
I had the same problem with this, when once I used our tablet. I decided to post some symbols and smileys (I forgot which ones already), but one (or some?) of them made my post something messy; I forgot already what exactly was the problem, but when I saw this... a sort of deja vu (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Déjà_vu (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Déjà_vu)).
Btw, this is the Grin emoticon/smiley here: ;D (and its code is: ;D
).
I found an animated grin one online. It's funny: (http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/smile/animated-msn-big-grin-smiley-emoticon.gif).
-
Also useful about how to resize pictures easy and fast (http://www.seo-forum-seo-luntan.com/else-topics/the-natchez-trace/msg27860/#msg27860) using this BBCode.
-
Hi, there!
I'd like to add a new one here. It's the time BBCode: For example: "September 28, 2018, 01:00:00 AM" or "September 28, 2018, 01:00:00 PM": [time]1:00[/time] or [time]13:00[/time]
, i. e. the BBCode is [time][/time]
.
-
Repeated. ;D But it's okay, for review the BBcode learning. ;D
-
The smileys' codes:
:) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) ??? ::) :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :((
:) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) ??? ::) :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :((
The last one (so-called "Cry") was changed from :'(
to :((
.
-
I liked another animated grin because the old one was missing. ;D
