SEM = Search Engine Marketing
SEM is marketing and technical work designed to increase a website’s visibility on Google and other search engines. SEM can include…

PPC = Pay-Per-Click Advertising
(AdWords is one flavor of PPC Advertising)

PPC includes ads on Google, Yahoo and Bing – these are the ads you see at the top and right-hand side of search pages – or even on Facebook pages.

SEM. SEM is also known as Search Engine Marketing. It is done to increase the visibility of a website on the search engines. It includes a variety of marketing techniques under its umbrella, such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Reputation Management.

 PPC is also known as Pay Per Click advertising. Businesses that do PPC are the ones running the ads you see at the top and right-hand sides of the screen on search engine results pages. The ads themselves are free to run. An advertiser only pays when someone actually clicks on their ad…hence the name “pay per click.”

The main difference between SEM and PPC is SEM is cost per click(CPC) & PPC is Pay per click. In SEM(CPC) an advertiser pays to Google for every click done by search engine user and in PPC advertizer have to pay to Google for every single click.

That's it.
Thanks
